THE BASICS OF THE AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE OF FREEDOM IN THE WRITINGS OF IVAN STOJANOVIC
Abstract
The old, 19th century Dubrovnik has its interpreter in the person of Ivan
Stojanovic, historian, philosopher, writer and translator. The notion of freedom in his
writings very often terminologically differs considerably compared to the present-day
understanding of freedom, but it’s even more important to underline the essential difference
in conceptualization, the way of acceptance, methods of preservation and defense of
freedom in the history of the old Dubrovnik. This essay tends to present these differences in
order to give an alternative understanding to the modern analogous concepts of the notion
of freedom in the West Balkans
