“..Kαὶ νῦν τῶν θαυμάτων σου ἀφθόνως ἀπολάβουσι”: THE "Έτερος κανών" TO SAINT ACHILLIOS OF LARISSA (13TH C. ) AND THE HONOR OF HIS RELICS IN THE NEW NATIONAL CHURCHES OF BALKAN
Abstract
A fragmentary canon of saint Achillios of Larissa, which was edited
incompletely by D. Sofianos, has been ascribed to Joseph Hymnographos (9th century).
Finally it is now complete, since the folios of the codex that were misplaced are now in the
right order and the text can be fully restored. The full text shows that the canon is not a
work of Joseph Hymnographos, but of another unknown writer. A terminus post quem for
the dating can be determined by the victory of Byzantines against the Bulgarian troops in
the second decade of the 11th century. Some inner elements indicate the possibility that the
writer can be identified with the Anonymous who wrote the Second Life of saint Achillios.
