МОТИВ ПОВРАТКА БРАТА ИЗ ТУЂИНЕ КОД АЛКЕЈА И КОД ЈЕВАНЂЕЛИСТЕ ЛУКЕ
Abstract
The common usage of the motif of the return of brother from the foreign land in Alcaeus and in the Lucan narrative of the Prodigal Son gives us a chance to understand the Jesus’ parable in the broader social and cultural milieu of the ancient Mediterranean world, in which the honor-shame antithesis plays such a significant role. It is a matrix for viewing the relationships of the father and of the older brother toward the ashamed younger brother. Whereas the behavior of the older brother toward the shameful return of the brother is quite understandable from the social and cultural perspective, the father is actually behaving in a very strange and unexpected way, according to the established rules in the Mediterranean world. Here exactly lies the point in the Lucan message of the father who acts not as a human but as divine Forgiver and who restores man’s dignity and transforms shame into honor.
